Frequently Asked Questions
  • What other services do you offer?

We offer vacant property caretaking as well as window cleaning, house cleaning and pet sitting. You can see our complete list of services here.

  • How do I know if my chimney needs to be cleaned?

In order to determine if your chimney needs to be cleaned, the top portion of the chimney must be inspected as this is where creosote builds up. Your fireplace may be clean, but that doesn't always mean your chimney is clean and safe.

All appointments are considered as an "inspection, possible sweep." Meaning that if after inspection your fireplace and chimney are deemed already clean or unserviceable, you will only be charged our current inspection rate. If your fireplace needs to / can be cleaned, we will complete the service at that time and you will be charged our current rate for your type and number of fireplaces.

  • Why do I need to have my chimney cleaned?

Creosote is a highly flammable substance that builds up in your chimney and fireplace as a result of burning wood. Creosote can ignite with just one ember spark which can cause a chimney and/or house fire. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that you have your fireplace cleaned and inspected annually.

  • What does the chimney sweep do?

The chimney sweep will first tarp off the area surrounding your stove or fireplace. Then an industrial soot vacuum will be inserted into the firebox and turned on while the sweep is on the roof using the rods and brushes to clean your flue. The sweep will then completely clean out the firebox and the hearth with the vacuum still running. After the sweep is finished cleaning he will inform you of any issues and/or make recommendations for repairs.

  • How long does a chimney sweep take?

Traditional masonry fireplaces take about 90 minutes, while inserts and wood burning stoves can take 2- 4 hours.

  • Does the chimney sweep need to come inside the house?

Yes. We also need access to a working electrical outlet.

  • Does the chimney sweep need to get on the roof?

Yes, although in rare cases a chimney can be swept from the bottom.

  • I don't know what kind of stove or fireplace I have. How can I tell?

Please visit our rates and services page for pictures of the types of fireplaces we service.

  • Do you deal with critters in the chimney?

Yes, if they are dead. If they are alive, please call a professional animal control service. We do charge an additional $40 for dead animal removal.

  • Do you service gas fireplaces or log sets?

No, we currently only service wood burning stoves and fireplaces. We can however inspect your gas fireplace (if we are already servicing your wood burning stove or fireplace) and make recommendations if service is needed.

  • What are your business hours?

We are open Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. We are closed all major holidays.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, all major credit cards via PayPal.  A $10 processing fee will be added to any credit card payment. Payment is due at the time of service.

  • Are you certified?

No, certification is not required for chimney sweeps at the state or federal level. We have over twenty-five years experience in the heating industry and consistently stay abreast of local and state codes and procedures. Not paying a third party for certification also allows us to keep our rates reasonable.

  • What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Appointments must be cancelled 24 hours prior; failure to cancel appointments without notice will be charged $80. Reminder calls/texts are provided as a courtesy if requested, but it is your responsibility to cancel the appointment within the requested time frame to avoid being charged. Appointments that are rescheduled will not be charged the cancellation fee.

  • Do you offer any discounts?

We offer $10 off for Seniors 65+, and all Military Service members. Properties within 2 miles of each other can qualify for the $20 neighbor discount if scheduled at the same time and for the same day.

Duplexes are charged as separate residences, but can qualify the $20 neighbor discount.

  • Do you work with property management companies?

Commercial Customers (Property Managers / Real Estate Professionals): With prior arrangements, payment is due within 3 business days of the invoice date. After 3 business days 15% of the invoice total will be charged. If you need more than 3 days to pay, please provide a credit card in advance.

  • What is your service area?

We cover all of Archuleta County, Bayfield, and other surrounding communities within 50 miles. We do not service South Fork or New Mexico. We do not charge a trip fee.

  • Why might you refuse service?

While this is rare, we do sometimes choose not to be of service. This might be due to a safety concern or inaccessibility of the fireplace or chimney. Ultimately, we reserve the right to refuse service at any time for any reason.
